BBL BroadBand Light
Book NowBroadBand Light (BBL®) is Sciton’s flagship phototherapy system that uses specific wavelengths of light to heat the upper layers of skin, stimulating collagen production and resolving color-based imperfections. The system employs a cryogen-spray cooling mechanism to keep treatments comfortable without the need for topical numbing.

ABSOLUTELY avoid any sunburn or suntan for at least 4 weeks prior to treatment. Prolonged sun exposure must be avoided before treatment, as treating tanned skin increases the risk of blistering and permanent discoloration. Do not use self-tanning lotions or sprays for at least 1 month prior. Apply SPF 30 or higher daily.
Discontinue 1 week prior: Retin-A, Renova, Differin (adapalene), retinol, glycolic acid, and salicylic acid. Avoid all irritating or active skincare products in the treatment area.
Medications & Antiviral Prophylaxis
Arrive with clean, product-free skin. Treatment areas should be shaved 1–2 days prior if hair is present, as BBL may cause hair reduction. Apply topical numbing cream to the treatment area 1 hour prior to your appointment if instructed.
Avoid filler for at least 1 month prior, as the effects of BBL on filler are unknown. Botox may be performed 2 weeks before or after treatment. Inform your provider if you have had any recent skin procedures within the past month to ensure proper spacing.
Notify Platinum Medical Spa of any medical conditions, medications, or history of cold sores. Wait at least 6 months after isotretinoin (Accutane) before undergoing treatment. Pre-care instructions must be followed to minimize complications.
Patients can enjoy normal social activities immediately after treatment, and there is no heavy or time-intensive post-care.
BBL® uses highly advanced cooling technology to ensure treatments are not only safe and quick, but comfortable for you.
Your treatment provider will work with you to create a personalized plan to address your revitalization needs. From corrective treatments to an ongoing skin care regimen, you will love your new radiant skin.
See noticeable improvement within weeks, with continued improvement over time.
Your treatment begins with a personalized consultation, where your practitioner will craft a plan tailored to your skin goals. During the session, the BBL® handpiece gently glides across the skin, delivering powerful results with little to no discomfort. A built-in sapphire cooling tip ensures your skin stays calm and comfortable throughout. Afterward, you may feel a gentle warmth for 30 to 60 minutes as your skin begins its renewal process.
A sunburn-like sensation, redness, warmth, and mild swelling are normal and typically last 2–4 hours. Use cool compresses (10–20 minutes at a time) and aloe gel as needed. Pain may be managed with Tylenol, ibuprofen, Advil, Aleve, or Motrin as directed.
Pigmented spots will darken immediately after treatment and may appear scaly (like coffee grounds) within 2–3 days. These areas will naturally flake off within 1–2 weeks, revealing new skin. DO NOT pick, scrub, or exfoliate treated areas.
Use a gentle moisturizer (e.g., CeraVe, Neutrogena, Purpose, Aveeno) twice daily for 1 week. Avoid retinoids, retinol, glycolic acid, and salicylic acid for at least 1 week. Makeup may be used if there is no blistering, with gentle application and removal.
If blistering or skin breakdown occurs, apply antibiotic ointment and keep the area moist with Vaseline or Aquaphor. Contact Platinum Medical Spa if this occurs. Swelling, especially around the eyes, may occur and typically resolves within 3–5 days.
STRICTLY avoid sun exposure for 4 weeks after treatment. Use a zinc oxide or titanium dioxide sunscreen (SPF 30+) daily, reapplying every 2 hours when exposed. Sun exposure may cause severe blistering or permanent discoloration.
Avoid hot environments, saunas, and intense heat for 72 hours. Avoid exfoliating treatments (facials, waxing, threading, extractions) for 14 days. If you have a history of cold sores, continue antiviral medication as prescribed. Contact Platinum Medical Spa if you experience blistering, prolonged redness, or signs of infection..
