Sculptra is a biostimulatory injectable that works by stimulating your body’s natural collagen production to restore structure, volume, and skin quality over time. Results develop gradually over several weeks to months and treatments are typically performed in a series. If you have a special event, schedule your treatment at least 2 to 4 weeks in advance to allow time for swelling or bruising to resolve.
Sculptra is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Notify Platinum Medical Spa if you have any illness, infection, rash, or cold sore prior to your appointment, as treatment may need to be postponed. Inform your provider of any history of herpes simplex, severe allergies, or previous complications with injectable treatments, as pre-treatment medication may be required.
To minimize bruising and bleeding, avoid blood-thinning medications and supplements for at least 3 to 7 days prior to treatment, and ideally 1 week. This includes Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Motrin, Aleve, NSAIDs, Fish Oil, Omega-3, Vitamin E, Vitamin A, garlic, ginkgo biloba, flax oil, cod liver oil, herbal supplements, and other essential fatty acids. Alcohol should also be avoided. If you are taking prescribed blood thinners, consult your physician before discontinuing any medication. Tylenol may be used if needed.
Avoid dental work, oral procedures, vaccines, surgeries, tattoos, or any procedure that breaks the skin barrier for at least 2 weeks before treatment. Cosmetic treatments such as lasers, peels, facials, ultrasound, or microdermabrasion should also be avoided within 2 weeks prior to Sculptra injections.
Avoid alcohol, caffeine, niacin supplements, high-sodium foods, high sugar intake, refined carbohydrates, spicy foods, and smoking for at least 24 to 48 hours before treatment, as these may increase swelling or irritation. Staying well hydrated, maintaining good nutrition, and optionally using Arnica or Bromelain may help reduce bruising and support recovery.
Arrive with clean skin free of makeup, creams, or lotions in the treatment area. Your skin will be thoroughly cleansed prior to the procedure. During treatment, Sculptra will be injected into targeted areas to stimulate collagen production. Mild discomfort, pressure, or sensitivity may be experienced during injections.

Sculptra is made from poly-L-lactic acid, a biocompatible substance that has been used in medical applications for decades. At your appointment, the product is injected into strategic areas of the face to activate collagen growth over time. There is minimal discomfort, and numbing is available if needed. Most clients require a series of 2-3 sessions spaced about a month apart. Improvements unfold gradually over 6-12 weeks and continue building long after treatment.
Avoid applying makeup for at least 24 hours after treatment. Keep the treated area clean and avoid touching the skin unnecessarily. Use clean hands when applying skincare and ensure items that come into contact with your face, such as phones and towels, are clean.
Massage the treated area for 5 minutes, 5 times per day, for 5 days following your treatment. This is essential to evenly distribute the product, reduce the risk of nodule formation, and promote optimal collagen stimulation.
Mild swelling, bruising, tenderness, and discomfort are common and typically resolve within a few days. Sleeping on your back with your head elevated may help reduce swelling. Cold compresses may be applied gently if needed. Tylenol may be used for discomfort. Arnica or Bromelain may also help reduce bruising.
Avoid strenuous exercise, excessive heat, sun exposure, saunas, steam rooms, and hot environments for at least 48 to 72 hours after treatment. Avoid alcohol and blood-thinning substances for several days after treatment to reduce bruising risk.
Avoid anti-inflammatory medications such as NSAIDs for 1 to 2 weeks after treatment, as inflammation is necessary for collagen production. Supporting your body with adequate protein intake and Vitamin C supplementation may enhance collagen synthesis and improve results.
Initial volume from the treatment will temporarily decrease as the carrier fluid is absorbed, and collagen production will gradually improve the area over several weeks to months. Treatments are typically performed in a series spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart, with results lasting up to 2 years or longer. Maintenance treatments may be required. Avoid facials, laser treatments, and procedures that disrupt the skin barrier for at least 2 to 4 weeks after treatment. Contact Platinum Medical Spa immediately if you experience severe pain, changes in skin color, signs of infection, or symptoms that worsen or do not improve.
